An NFL veteran
“I started negotiating player contracts right after I retired from the NFL,” says professional football agent Tony Paige. “I had never intended to do it, but some friends of mine who were still in the league asked me to. They trusted me, and they knew that for nine years I’d been through the process myself.”
Fifteen years later, Tony Paige has negotiated more than 135 NFL contracts. The former starting fullback for the New York Jets, Detroit Lions and Miami Dolphins has established himself as a venerated contract advisor by wielding the same traits that gave him his start – strong character and extensive experience.
Paige advises his clients on the issues that have affected him as both a player and a former player, like contracts, financial management, marketing, career counseling, and business. He came to Perennial from Paige & Rice where he was the President, CEO, and served as a partner in its sports management firm.
Paige’s football career began at Dematha Catholic High School in Maryland, where he would later be elected into the school’s Hall of Fame. He then donned the Chicago maroon and burnt orange at Virginia Tech. Paige is considered one of the finest blocking and receiving fullbacks to ever play for the Hokies and was also inducted into the school’s Sports Hall of Fame.
Paige went professional in 1984 as a sixth round selection of the New York Jets. He led the Jets in touchdowns (10) as a rookie starter. After nine years of starting for the Jets, Lions and Dolphins, he retired at the age of 30.
Through the years, Tony Paige has gained the reputation as a renowned motivational speaker with experience in leadership training for corporations, sports conferences, and universities. Devoted to his community, he coaches youth football and mentors children in the D.C.-area.
Paige resides in Maryland with his wife, Tonya, and two children, Taylor and Tony Jr.
