Right now, you’re hot. As a star athlete, everybody wants to talk to you, wants a piece of your fame. Folks are telling you you’ll have more money than you’ve ever dreamed. And that’s great – for now. The problem is, your career as an athlete won’t last forever. Though there are exceptions – your John Elways, your Michael Jordans – the average NFL career is about three and a half seasons; in both the NBA and the NHL, the average player is around for less than four years; and in Major League baseball, he’s around for less than five.
Because of this, athletes need to be smart about the money they make during their short active years. They need to save, invest well, start companies and foundations and begin making inroads to a post-sports career. Be it commentating, coaching, working in a team’s front office, or something completely non-sports-related, Perennial has the athletics, business and political contacts, legal staff and general business know-how to help you set up a viable career for when your playing days are over.
