Leigh Torrence is a cornerback for the Super Bowl Champion New Orleans Saints – but his true impact transcends off the field. He is a dynamic community leader who empowers today's youth through education and selfless service. From his days at Stanford University to his time on Capitol Hill, Leigh understands the value of perseverance and hard work and how it can lead to success in any endeavor.

With respect to his football career, Leigh was signed in 2005 as a Rookie Free Agent by the Green Bay Packers and later acquired by the Atlanta Falcons. Leigh then went on to play for 3 years with the Washington Redskins before signing with the Saints in 2008. The 2009 season was historic for the city of New Orleans as the Saints capped it off with their first Super Bowl Championship. Before playing in the NFL, Leigh had a great career at Stanford University and graduated in 2005 with a degree in Political Science and African American Studies.

Leigh's selfless work off the football field, however, is what sets him apart. His enthusiasm for community service and empowering children started from an early age. During his days at Stanford University, he helped organize Stanford Athletes and Kids United, a mentoring and after school program that served disadvantaged youth of the nearby East Palo Alto Community. At Stanford, Torrence was honored as an Academic All-American and a member of the Pac-10's All-Academic Team. He remained involved in the Stanford student body where he was a member of the NAACP, Black Student Union, and the President of the Alpha Mu Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.

During the summer of 2006 following his rookie season with the Falcons, Torrence hosted his 1st annual "4th Down Fundamentals Football Camp" in South West Atlanta. Today, the event provides more than 450 of Atlanta's youth a day long learningexperience hosted by NFL Players, Coaches, and Cheerleaders. The camp is now part of the South West Atlanta Youth Foundation (SWAY), an organization started by Leigh to reflect his passion to serve children and show his commitment to support and uplift the Atlanta community, which gave him his start in life.

In 2007, Torrence took his desire and commitment on education policy to Capitol Hill in Washington, DC where he served as an intern in the office of Georgia Congressmen Sanford Bishop and John Lewis. His involvement included attending briefings on education policy and helping draft letters advocating changes to the Higher Education Act. As a true advocate for education in our nation, he also sought out the opportunity in 2008 to volunteer for the National Education Association in the District of Columbia.

Leigh's longstanding passion lies in positively impacting the schools of our nation through public policy; especially those schools facing challenges in urban areas. It has become his mission to be an advocate for children, particularly children in his own home community of South West Atlanta.
