While at UConn, Williams was considered an anchor of the team's defense and somone who embodied consistency and strength. At 6'2", 258 pounds, Williams is recognized as an impact player who can break-up plays by deflecting passes and has the ability to maneuver through the offensive line and put pressure on the quarterback. Among the league leaders in sacks throughout his collegiate career, he entered the 2008 bowl season with 35 tackles and six sacks.

Williams has experience shifting his style based on the defensive scheme. He can easily convert to defensive end in the nickel package and has had great success with stopping the run. Described as a "physical specimen” and "a beast," Williams can bench-press 450 pounds and has displayed excellent speed in game situations.

His versatility and brut power caught the eye of many pro scouts and coaches, including those with Jacksonville Jaguars, who signed Williams to a free agent contract in April 2009.
